The issue of torture or in other words, the use of the means of violence against domestic workers, is increasing in Jordan some of these abnormal behaviors may come in response to errors by the servants themselves and others may be due to misbehaviour on the part of some employers.
Some of these behaviors carry a lot of cruelty and ugliness to the degree that it may lead to a crime others may end by mutual consent between the Employer and the server without being up to the police, and the strange thing is the involvement of wives in the commission of such behaviors.
A case indicates that a woman was accused of abusing a young maid . The woman and her daughter informed the police that they had found the maid in a case of severe fatigue in the bathroom and they found out that she was dead. With the medical examination on the body revealed forensic evidence of torture , including the effects of a hot iron from 6 months ago . The report also referred to the removal of some locks of hair from the victim's head and also one of her nails .
Inquiries by the police reached at the involvement of reporting in causing the death of the victim and it was due to apermanent torture .The woman was arrested on charges of murder with premeditation and her husband was arrested as well, he was covering up the torture over long period. Then theywere referred to the Attorney General submitted to the Criminal Court and the case is still pending.
Another incident, the heroine is also a woman .The police were informed by the arrival of a maid Asian to emergency Hamad General Hospital infected severely wounded, and found that the victim is in intensive care and was suffering from a brain hemorrhage and the sponsor of the victim, denied he or his wife, causing injuries to the servant and said that injuries are due to the fact that the maid beats her head into the wall and as the sponsor the wife denied it in the same way . At the same day in which the victim arrived to the hospital it was revealed that she was dead.
We all should try to find solutions to raise the awareness about it . If the maid was not doing her job the way she is expected to , nobody has the right to hurt or abuse her, we can advice her and warn her not to repeat the same behaviour or we can just get a new one , but not hit her.
we could raise the awareness by lettinhg people know more about the problem and that it does exist !! and there must be a continual contact between the maid and the company which employed her so she will have the right to leave the family if they are hurting her . And the guardian should agree to the terms in the contract that he will not hurt her by any means and if so he will recieve punishment.
